16-Year-Old Danbury High School Student in Critical Condition After Jumping From Danbury Hospital Rooftop

Teen jumped from top floor of hospital, police said.

A Danbury High School student is in critical condition after jumping from the top level of the parking garage of Danbury Hospital, police said Thursday.

At 7:13 a.m., the Police Department received a call from Danbury High School staff that some students had received text messages from a 16-year-old female student that she was going to kill herself, police said.

Officers responded to the girl’s house but she was not there. They found her on the top level of the parking garage of the Danbury Hospital on Locust Avenue standing on a ledge, police said. The first officers on the scene attempted to talk to her, however, she jumped off the ledge, police said.

She was transported to the emergency room where she was treated for injuries sustained in the fall. She was later transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for further treatment. Her condition is listed as critical.

The incident caused traffic tie-ups Wednesday morning as police blocked off area roads while on the scene.
