2nd Danbury Rainbow Flag Burning Could Be Hate Crime

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation put up the first flag after the Supreme Court's same-sex marriage ruling.

The burning of a second rainbow flag at a Danbury church means the police are considering calling it a hate crime.

The Danbury News Times reported the Rev. Barbara Fast of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation found the burned remains of the second flag Wednesday morning.

That flag had replaced one vandals had set fire to in July. The congregation had hung the first flag when the Supreme Court ruled same-sex marriage was legal throughout the United States, the News Times said.

Fast was quoted as saying another flag will be put up and is a symbol of peace and welcoming.

Police originally thought the damage to the first flag was an act of vandalism, the News Times said, but with the latest incident, he said it is possibly a hate crime.
