5 Things To Know In Danbury: First Oktoberfest At Hatters Park, Kennedy Avenue Bridge Work And More

DANBURY, CT — Danbury Recreation hosts the city's first Oktoberfest at Hatters Park on Saturday, Kennedy Avenue remains closed at Main Street for bridge work, and the Environmental Impact Commission and Zoning Commission meet.
Here are five things to know about life around Danbury this week:
1. Danbury's First Oktoberfest At Hatters Park
When: Saturday, Oct. 17, noon to 4 p.m.
Where: Hatters Park, 7 E. Hayestown Road
What to know: Danbury Recreation is hosting its first Oktoberfest with Twins BBQ and Tapville Mobile Taproom, according to the city. Admission is free, the first 50 guests get a commemorative stein, and a stein-holding contest starts at 2 p.m. German and American food, beer and other drinks will be for sale, along with commemorative steins.

2. Kennedy Avenue Closed At Main Street For Bridge Work
When: Ongoing
Where: Kennedy Avenue at Main Street
What to know: Kennedy Avenue has been closed at Main Street since Aug. 10 for the Kennedy Avenue Bridge rehabilitation project, according to the city. Crosby Street is one-way from Maple Avenue toward Main Street, right turns from Lee Hartell Drive onto Crosby Street aren't allowed, and HARTransit stops have moved from Pulse Point to Crosby Street.

Where: Council Chambers, City Hall, 155 Deer Hill Ave.
What to know: The Environmental Impact Commission meets in the City Hall council chambers, according to the city calendar. The agenda had not been posted as of Thursday.

4. Zoning Commission Meets On Zoom

5. Eversource Underground Cable Work On Franklin Street
When: Weekdays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last city update Aug. 17)
Where: Franklin Street
What to know: Eversource's underground cable modernization project has been trenching on Franklin Street between Rose Hill Avenue and Hoyt Street and near the Interstate 84 overpass toward Davis Street, with alternating lanes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and flaggers on site, according to the city's most recent update.
