Here are five things to know about life around Danbury this week:

1. Council Committee Reviews Vape Shop Licensing Ordinance
When: Monday, Oct. 19, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Room 3C, third floor, City Hall, 155 Deer Hill Ave.
What to know: A City Council ad hoc committee will review a proposed ordinance that would require vape shops to be licensed by the city's Department of Health and Human Services, according to the meeting notice and the draft ordinance in the council's Oct. 6 agenda. As drafted, existing and proposed shops would have to apply within 90 days of the ordinance taking effect, pay a $250 application fee and post a $5,000 cash bond or letter of credit. The draft bars sales to anyone under 21, requires ID checks for customers who appear to be under 30, allows inspections by the health director or police chief and calls for revoking the license of any shop that sells cannabis or other controlled substances. It says many shops selling tobacco and smoking products have opened near schools, parks and houses of worship.
