Danbury Approves New Dog Park Near Candlewood Lake

DANBURY, CT — City officials have approved plans for a new dog park near Candlewood Lake, which would become the third such park in the city, according to city documents and a recent public meeting.

The project is planned for Hatters Park at 11 East Hayestown Road, near Doyle’s Pond, on city-owned property.

Plans call for the construction of a roughly 0.75-acre fenced dog park, including separate areas for large and small dogs, according to documents submitted to the city’s Environmental Impact Commission.

The proposal also includes waste stations, benches and a water line to service the park, officials said.

According to city documents, the dog park is designed to be located at least 25 feet from nearby environmental resources, and no wetlands would be directly impacted by the project.

The site sits down-gradient from Doyle’s Pond, meaning runoff from the park would flow away from the water body, according to the plans.

The Environmental Impact Commission reviewed the proposal and determined the project would not significantly affect wetlands or watercourses if constructed as planned, according to city documents.

Officials discussed and approved the project during a public meeting on April 22.
