Immigrant Advocacy Group Launching Canvassing Campaign In Danbury

DANBURY, CT — A Danbury immigrant advocacy group plans to launch a neighborhood canvassing campaign this month with a kickoff event at Kennedy Park.

Danbury Unites for Immigrants, or DUFI, will begin its “Families Belong Together” campaign with a press conference at 9 a.m. May 9 at Kennedy Park.

The campaign will bring volunteers into city neighborhoods every other Saturday through mid-September, organizers said.

Volunteers are expected to engage residents in one-on-one conversations, distribute resources and promote DUFI’s helpline number, which can be used to report immigration enforcement activity or request support.

The kickoff event will take place at the intersection of Main Street and Kennedy Avenue.

The campaign follows a similar effort last fall, when volunteers canvassed thousands of homes over nine weeks, organizers said.

The effort is backed by several organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union and other advocacy groups across Connecticut.
