DANBURY, CT — Western Connecticut State University has announced details for its 2026 commencement ceremonies, with more than 900 students expected to graduate across two events.
The university will hold its undergraduate commencement on May 18 at 3 p.m. at Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, where about 710 students are set to receive degrees.
Graduate commencement is scheduled for May 19 at 5 p.m. at Ives Concert Hall on the university’s Midtown campus in Danbury, where 191 master’s and 10 doctoral degrees will be awarded.
University officials said Anna Rathmann, executive director of the Jane Goodall Institute USA, will serve as the commencement speaker at both ceremonies.
WestConn will also recognize several honorees during the events.
Richard Asselta, a former adjunct instructor with longstanding ties to the university, will receive the President’s Award for his service and involvement with students and community initiatives.
At the graduate ceremony, the university will confer an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree on Danbury attorney Robert J. Yamin, citing his legal career and longtime support of the university and local community.
Tickets are required to attend both ceremonies, and officials said parking at the Bridgeport venue will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Both events will also be streamed live for those unable to attend.
More information is available on the university’s website.
