Big Changes Approved For Morefar Golf Club In Danbury

Plans tied to the exclusive golf property include renovations, new construction and updated course facilities.

DANBURY, CT — A major overhaul could be coming to the ultra-private Morefar golf club in Danbury after city officials approved a site plan for proposed improvements at the sprawling Joe’s Hill Road property.

An April 28 Planning and Zoning Department approval letter states the application sought approval for improvements to the existing golf course on approximately 334.4 acres.

The private golf club, which straddles the Connecticut-New York border and has operated since 1964, has been described by golf publications as one of the country’s most exclusive and difficult-to-access courses.

Representatives for the club previously told city officials portions of the property were “stuck in the 1960s and 1970s” and overdue for modernization.

The property currently includes an 18-hole course, driving range and multiple buildings tied to club and overnight accommodations.

According to the approval letter, the proposal includes a combination of demolition and new construction as part of a reconfiguration of the property’s existing programming.

The project includes updates to the driving range, practice greens, a golf cart barn and renovations to portions of the existing course, according to project documents.

The approval letter also notes portions of the property are located within 500 feet of Southeast, New York and contain wetlands regulated by the city. The Environmental Impact Commission previously granted approval with conditions in February, according to the document.
