DANBURY, CT — The City of Danbury and Western Connecticut State University are partnering to launch a new downtown walking initiative aimed at making physical activity more accessible for residents.
The “Wolf Tracks Walking Path” program, developed by the city’s Department of Health and Human Services and WestConn’s Department of Health Promotion and Exercise Sciences, is expected to launch later this month.
According to officials, the initiative was created in response to priorities identified in Danbury’s 2023 Plan of Conservation and Development, including a need for more mobility and exercise options throughout the city.
The walking route will run through parts of downtown Danbury and the Western Connecticut State University Midtown campus area.
Before the program officially launches, city officials and WestConn are asking residents to complete a community survey available in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
The survey asks residents about their exercise habits, health goals and environmental factors in Danbury that support or discourage walking, according to the announcement.
Mayor Roberto Alves called the initiative a “community-driven” effort focused on improving residents’ health and quality of life.
The survey is open to Danbury residents 18 and older through June 15.
