DANBURY, CT — A Danbury elementary magnet school has been named one of Connecticut’s 2026 Blue Ribbon Schools, according to state officials.
Gov. Ned Lamont and Connecticut Education Commissioner Charlene Russell-Tucker announced Thursday that Western Connecticut Academy of International Studies Elementary Magnet School was among six schools statewide selected for the recognition.
State officials said the schools were recognized for demonstrating high levels of academic excellence, supportive learning environments and strong student outcomes.
The Connecticut Blue Ribbon Schools Program was launched last year after the federal National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was discontinued, according to the state.
The schools were selected using 2024-25 results from Connecticut’s Next Generation Accountability System, officials said.

An awards ceremony for the schools is scheduled for June 9 in West Hartford, according to state officials.
