Danbury Investing In AI-Powered Traffic-Calming Software

Officials said the one-year agreement could help the city analyze speeding, congestion and roadway safety concerns.

DANBURY, CT — Danbury officials are moving forward with a new AI-powered traffic analytics system intended to help the city identify speeding hotspots, congestion issues and roadway safety concerns.

During a recent Board of Awards meeting, officials unanimously approved a one-year agreement with Urban SDK for what city documents described as a “Speed and Traffic Calming Software Solution” for the Engineering Department.

According to meeting documents, the agreement is valued at $20,500 and remains contingent on execution of a final license agreement.

Traffic congestion and speeding concerns have remained ongoing issues in Danbury and the surrounding region in recent years, particularly along major commercial corridors and routes connected to Interstate 84.

Danbury was ranked as the third-most congested city in Connecticut, according to INRIX's 2025 Global Traffic Scorecard.

The city said Urban SDK’s platform would combine traffic-calming, speed-study and mobility analytics tools into a single system.

According to the company’s website, the software is designed to help municipalities identify speeding and traffic volume on roadways without relying on time-consuming manual traffic counts or physical monitoring hardware.

Urban SDK says the platform uses connected vehicle telemetry and GPS-based traffic data to estimate traffic speeds, congestion patterns and roadway usage across local street networks.
