DANBURY, CT — Drivers in Danbury should expect temporary traffic delays over the next several days as community events take place throughout the city.
According to the Danbury Police Department, a religious procession, the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run, a 5K race and the annual Portuguese Day Parade are expected to affect traffic between Thursday and Sunday.
A religious procession beginning at 8 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church on Main Street and ending at St. Peter's Church. The procession will occupy part of the southbound lane on Main Street.
Friday, June 5
The Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run is expected to enter Danbury from Brookfield via Federal Road at approximately 9:30 a.m. Participants will travel along Federal Road, White Street, Main Street and South Street before passing the torch to Bethel officers at the town line.
Saturday, June 6
The Athletes of Christ 5K begins at 10 a.m. and will use Memorial Drive, Lions Way, South Street and Mountainville Avenue.
Sunday, June 7
The annual Portuguese Day Parade begins at 9:30 a.m. on Deer Hill Avenue and proceeds to Liberty Street.
The inaugural Hat City Dash 5K begins at 9:30 a.m. on Kenosia Avenue. Runners will travel on Kenosia Avenue and Christopher Columbus Avenue before returning to the finish area near Backus Avenue.
Police said the events are expected to cause minor traffic delays and thanked motorists for their patience.
