For the past 44 years, the Woman's Club of Danbury/New Fairfield has awarded scholarships to honor students for their outstanding school participation, academic performance and volunteer efforts. Through the years, $275,650 has been awarded through the club's yearly poinsettia sales.
This year, nine area high school seniors shared the sum of $10,000. The recipients include Delaney Breitbeil from New Fairfield H.S., Amanda DeOliveira and Abigail Ransley from Immaculate H.S., Sydney Borst, Benjamin Miller, and Melissa Saquinaula from Danbury H.S., Jessie Muller from Henry Abbott Tech H.S., Avaire Ruiz and Khrise Lynn Rivera from the Alternative Center for Excellence.
In the fall, Delaney will attend Fairfield University, Amanda will attend R.I.T., Sydney will attend Pennsylvania University, Benjamin will attend Brigham Young University, Jessie will attend Louisiana State University, Avaire will attend Naugatuck C.C., Khrise will attend Sacred Heart University. Melissa will attend George Washington University and Abigail will attend Bentley University.
The Woman's Club congratulates the winners and wishes them continued success. WCDNF thanks the members of our community for their purchase of our annual poinsettias that made these scholarships possible.
Another scholarship program sponsored by WCDNF is Hooray for the Arts. It honors and celebrates high school seniors with artistic talents. Each year, students from local high schools are invited to show their original art work at the Brookfield Craft Center in Brookfield, CT.
A scholarship of $500 was awarded to Angie Piedracarchi who plans to study architecture at Naugatuck C.C. this fall. Our best wishes and congratulations to Angie in her academic and artistic goals.
