Danbury Area Included In State Work Zone Speed Enforcement Program

Here's what drivers should know about a new traffic enforcement initiative planned for the area.

DANBURY, CT — Drivers traveling through the Danbury area may encounter automated speed enforcement equipment on I-84 eastbound as part of a statewide work zone safety initiative.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation's Automated Work Zone Speed Control program uses technology to monitor speeds in active highway construction and maintenance areas with the goal of improving safety for workers and motorists.

CTDOT said the program begins with warning notices before fines are issued. Under state law, fines are $75 for a second violation and $150 for subsequent violations.

A state map identifies an I-84 eastbound location in Danbury as part of the program.

The equipment is operated by CTDOT contractor Acusensus and is deployed at active work zones throughout the state.

CTDOT officials said the program is intended to reduce speeding and improve safety in areas where roadway crews are working.

Additional information is available through CTDOT's "Know the Zone" program.
