DANBURY, CT — A Danbury woman charged in a homicide investigation tied to human remains found in Stamford is accused of leaving her newborn son in a dumpster while he was still alive, according to prosecutors.
Dominique Harrison, 28, was arraigned Monday in Danbury Superior Court on a charge of murder with special circumstances stemming from a 2018 investigation.
Police previously said the case began when human remains were discovered in Stamford and investigators later determined the victim had been killed in Danbury.
During Monday’s arraignment, prosecutors said Harrison abandoned her newborn son in a dumpster in a remote area in 2018. Assistant State’s Attorney Mary-Caitlin Harding told the court the infant was alive when he was placed there and that no one would have been able to save him.
“The case before you paints a picture of a level of depravity that is nearly inconceivable,” Harding said during the hearing.
According to court records, Harrison is charged under Connecticut’s murder statute involving a victim younger than 16 years old. Her bond was increased Monday from $750,000 to $2.5 million, and she remains in custody.
Defense attorney Francisco Cardona told the court Harrison was born and raised in Danbury, graduated from high school in 2017 and has been pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Post University. Cardona also requested that Harrison be placed on suicide watch and receive mental health treatment.
Police announced Harrison’s arrest Thursday following a joint investigation involving the Danbury and Stamford police departments. Authorities have not publicly released additional details about the case, and the arrest warrant affidavit remains sealed.
Harrison is scheduled to appear in court again on July 31.
