Danbury Police Deny Claims Department Is Working With ICE

DANBURY, CT — Danbury police are pushing back against a social media post claiming the department is working with federal immigration authorities to identify undocumented residents, calling the claims false and "reckless."

The department said it recently became aware of a post from a group called "Danbury al dia" claiming police allowed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents into department headquarters and shared information to help identify undocumented residents.

"None of this is true," the Danbury Police Department said in a public notice.

Police said the purpose of the post was unknown but argued that the claims undermine efforts by officers and other department employees to build relationships with residents.

The department also addressed concerns about immigration enforcement more broadly, saying it has complied with Connecticut's Trust Act since the law took effect and will continue to do so.

"While the fear of ICE is real for many of our residents, please know that the members of the Danbury Police Department, sworn and non-sworn, are here to protect and serve ALL of our community members, regardless of immigration status," police said.

The department encouraged residents to verify information before sharing posts on social media.
