8 Displaced, Resident Hospitalized After Danbury House Fire

DANBURY, CT — Eight people, including four children, were displaced after a fire tore through a two-story Danbury home early Monday, fire officials said.

Danbury firefighters responded shortly before 2 a.m. after receiving reports that the home was fully involved in flames and that a tenant was trapped in a downstairs bedroom, according to the Danbury Fire Department.

When crews arrived, they encountered heavy fire throughout both floors of the wood-frame home, with flames extending into the attic. Firefighters immediately searched the residence and determined that everyone had escaped safely, officials said.

Four adults and four children were displaced from the home, along with two dogs.

One resident was taken to Danbury Hospital's emergency department for treatment, according to the fire department. One of the dogs was also taken to an emergency veterinary hospital after suffering smoke inhalation.

The Danbury Office of Emergency Management worked with the American Red Cross to assist displaced residents.

The Danbury Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
