DANBURY, CT — Danbury's open-house calendar this weekend reads a little like a theater program, with the grandest stop tied to the stage itself. A 53-acre estate once called "the house the plays built" by the playwright who shaped it headlines the lineup. Around it are a 1910 Deer Hill Avenue antique with a studio over the garage, a lakeside home full of custom creative spaces and a 1916 family home with a 1,000-square-foot barn made for a workshop or studio. Starter condos, a west-side ranch and a Colonial with a saltwater pool round it out.
Twelve Danbury homes are holding open houses Sept. 26 and 27, with prices from $205,000 to $4.5 million, according to Zillow.com.

This 1991 Colonial sits on nearly an acre in Maplewood Estates, part of the Aunt Hack neighborhood, minutes from Richter Park Golf Course and the New York border. The four-bedroom, 2.5-bath home has 3,424 square feet. 166 Old Brookfield Road #34-7, noon to 3 p.m. — $375,000. This Summit View townhome promises easy living with no neighbors above or below and forest views three seasons of the year. The two-bedroom, two-bath condo has 1,742 square feet, including a finished walk-out basement. It's close to shopping, Interstate 84, Route 7 and Metro-North.
19 Mountainville Road, 1 to 3 p.m. — $565,000. Set on 0.83 acres with rolling-hill views and plenty of stonework, this 1991 home is listed on Zillow as a two-bedroom, two-bath home with 1,606 square feet. The listing says it's actually configured as three bedrooms with four full baths and a possible in-law suite. The living room has a wood and pellet stove. Buyers should read the fine print: the listing discloses septic problems that the seller won't repair, and a septic report and engineering plans are available.
4 Hillside Road, 1 to 3 p.m. (also Sunday, 1 to 3 p.m.) — $679,000. Shaped by what its listing calls "a 28-year love affair," this 1953 corner-lot home comes with custom-built creative spaces, bonus rooms and Candlewood Lake views. The three-bedroom, two-bath home has 2,194 square feet and an updated kitchen. Its oversized garage is wrapped in stone walls built from rock found on the property. The Pleasant Acres Association offers lake and beach access and a chance at a boat slip, and a new septic system, roof and windows are on the update list.
155 Long Ridge Road, 2 to 4 p.m. — $4,500,000. This weekend's showstopper is "Roadside," a 1925 estate on 53 gated acres just minutes from Ridgefield. Playwright Rachel Crothers reshaped it during her ownership and called it "the house the plays built." The three-bedroom home with four full and two half baths has 5,824 square feet, six fireplaces, a double-sided chef's kitchen and a wine cellar. The weekend's most affordable option is in Deer Hill Arms II, a secure, elevator-equipped 55-and-older community minutes from CityCenter's dining, shopping and entertainment. The freshly painted one-bedroom, one-bath condo has 825 square feet, new carpeting, central air and a kitchen with a new countertop and new stainless steel stove.
47 Gregory St., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — $599,000. This updated 1966 Cape Cod-style home sits on a level 0.6-acre lot. The three-bedroom, 2.5-bath home has 1,848 square feet and a kitchen with granite counters, a center island and stainless steel appliances. There's also a sunroom with scenic views and two main-level flex rooms that could be a guest room, den or home office.
36 Middle River Road, noon to 2 p.m. — $550,000. Cared for by one family for more than 50 years, this 1916 home sits on a level 1.09-acre lot on the west side. The four-bedroom, two-bath home has 2,322 square feet, a classic front porch and a great room with a wood stove that opens onto a big deck. Make a weekend of it: Saturday's biggest stop is the Roadside estate from 2 to 4 p.m. Pair it with the lakeside home on Hillside Road or the Aunt Hack Colonial on Maplewood Drive earlier in the afternoon. Both are open again Sunday if you want a second look. Sunday puts two very different Deer Hill Avenue listings on the same street, a 55-and-older condo and a 1910 antique with a garage studio. It also brings a cluster of west-side homes from noon to 2 p.m., including the 1916 family home with its 1,000-square-foot barn.
