DANBURY, CT — About 50 firefighters battled a massive overnight blaze at an abandoned Danbury factory early Monday morning, according to the Danbury Fire Department.
Fire dispatchers began receiving multiple calls around 12:20 a.m. reporting a large fire near 385 Main St. Responding crews located the blaze at 33 East Franklin St., the site of the former Amphenol factory, fire officials said.
Crews arrived to find an approximately 50-by-100-foot section of the abandoned industrial structure heavily involved in flames.
Because of the size and location of the fire, Deputy Chief Schiller ordered crews to conduct a defensive operation and requested a second alarm to bring additional resources to the scene, according to the department.
A second ladder truck responded from the Bethel Fire Department, and Ridgefield, Brookfield, Stony Hill and New Milford also assisted at the scene or station coverage.
The department's newly formed Drone Team was deployed during the fire, giving incident commanders an aerial view of the property. Officials said the drone helped crews assess the blaze and direct master streams into portions of the burning structure across the wooded property.
Approximately 50 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, which was brought under control around 2:40 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
Danbury Emergency Management warned residents around 4 a.m. that heavy smoke remained in the area and advised them to stay inside and close their windows. Emergency crews also closed Maple Avenue as they continued working in the area.
The Danbury Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
