DANBURY, CT — A Danbury elementary school has been named among Connecticut's 100 best public elementary schools in new rankings released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report.
Great Plain School ranked No. 89 statewide in the publication's 2027 Best Elementary Schools rankings.
The school, part of the Danbury School District, serves 271 students, according to U.S. News.
Riverside School in Greenwich topped the Connecticut rankings, followed by Veterans Park Elementary School in Ridgefield and Bugbee School in West Hartford.
U.S. News evaluated approximately 46,000 public elementary schools nationwide using reading and mathematics achievement data from state education agencies and the U.S. Department of Education.
The 2027 rankings incorporate expanded state education data, providing a more comprehensive assessment of student performance across all proficiency levels while accounting for student background and achievement on state assessments.
Student-teacher ratios are used to break ties in overall scores.
The rankings cover public elementary schools serving prekindergarten through fifth or sixth grade. For schools serving additional grades, only test results through fifth grade were considered.
