Why are you seeking this office?

I am running to make it easier for all of us to take care of ourselves and our families.

What do you believe is the No. 1 issue facing Connecticut, and how do you plan to address it?

I have talked with thousands of voters, and they all say the same thing: affordability. While the state does not control the price of gas or groceries, there are many ways state policies affect the cost of living in my district. I have focused on the link between school funding and property taxes, because most people in my district own their own homes. School budgets are roughly 70% of our municipal budgets and the state hasn't paid its fair share of school funding in over a decade. That forces municipalities to raise property taxes every year. My priority if elected is to get the state to increase funding for public education, including special education, to ease the burden on property taxes.

Energy costs have been soaring in Connecticut. What are your plans to help address this issue?

Eversource, the utility in our area, made record profits of over $1.6 billion last year, while our rates skyrocketed. It's time to put rate payers above profits. I will hold Eversource accountable by making solar cheaper for families and small businesses, expand competition and encouraging more community-owned utilities, like those in Wallingford and Norwich, where ratepayers pay 30-40% less than we do, and pushing for legislative constraints on how Eversource makes its money. Energy can and should be more affordable.

Affordability has been a major topic across the country and here in Connecticut. How do you plan to address this issue?

Besides addressing rising property taxes and energy costs, I plan to increase support for working families by protecting and expanding the Child Care Endowment Fund, which will create thousands of new child care slots and cap the cost of child care for families. In addition, I will advocate for a permanent child tax credit.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I am on the Sherman Planning and Zoning Commission, and used to practice environmental and land use law. As an environmental lawyer, I have consistently advocated for environmental protection, including bringing down utility rates through clean energy. I have come out against AI data centers, and for preserving open space, and have been endorsed by both the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters

As a working mom, I have fought for fairness in the workplace and believe in supporting working families by creating an economy that works for everyone. I have been endorsed by the AFL-CIO, CSEA SEIU Local 2001, 32BJ SEIU, AFT, and National Education Association-Danbury, Connecticut College Democrats, and the Working Families Party because I will never put corporate greed above people.

As a woman, I am fiercely protective of every woman's right to make her own decisions about when and if to start a family and have been endorsed by Planned Parenthood Votes. I am also deeply concerned about gun safety, and have been recognized by Moms Demand Action and endorsed by CT Against Gun Violence, which gave my opponent an F.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I grew up in a family of strong working women. My mom, a Danbury High School graduate, became an architect and was often the only woman in the room. Her mom was a small-business owner in Danbury. They taught me the value of hard work, perseverance and kindness - and the importance of standing up for what's right.

These lessons and experiences throughout my career and life have taught me to listen to my community, to act with integrity and principle and to solve problems by finding common ground.
