Danbury homeowners, renters, businesses and private nonprofits affected by the Sunday, Sept. 13, storms and flash flooding have until Tuesday, Dec. 1, to apply for federal physical damage disaster loans. The city announced the deadline for the U.S. Small Business Administration's low-interest loans.
Eligibility includes residents, businesses and nonprofits, including houses of worship, in Fairfield, Litchfield and New Haven counties in Connecticut. The notice also lists Dutchess, Nassau, Putnam, Suffolk and Westchester counties in New York.
Homeowners may borrow up to $500,000 to repair or replace a primary residence, according to the city notice. Homeowners and renters may receive up to $100,000 to replace personal property, including vehicles. Businesses and nonprofits may borrow up to $2 million for damaged property, equipment and inventory.
Interest rates are as low as 3% for homeowners and renters, 3.625% for nonprofits and 4% for businesses. Repayment terms may extend up to 30 years, with no payments or interest during the first 12 months.
Small businesses and nonprofits may also seek Economic Injury Disaster Loans for working capital, even without physical damage, according to the notice. That application deadline is Friday, July 2, 2027.
SBA application checklists call for government identification, a recent federal income tax return, contact information for all applicants, income and monthly expenses, and available insurance coverage and claims details. Businesses also need their business EIN. There is no cost or obligation to apply, and applicants need not wait for an insurance settlement.
Applicants can start the disaster loan application process, call 800-659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. People who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability can dial 7-1-1.
