Union Savings Bank vice president named to Torrington “Downtown” Advisory Committee

[Danbury, Conn., February 28, 2013] – Union Savings Bank is pleased to announce that Gina B. Scherbner, Vice President and Business Development Officer, has been selected to join the newly formed “Come Home to Downtown” Advisory Committee.  She will work alongside the Mayor of the City of Torrington, President of the Northwest CT Chamber of Commerce, the City Planner, Economic Development Officer and other local business leaders representing a cross-section of the downtown interests.

Come Home to Downtown is a mixed-use real estate planning pilot program, which will provide selected communities with new tools to strengthen economic health and restore vitality to their downtown areas.  Torrington was one of five communities selected for the program and will work in conjunction with the CT Main Street Center, based in Hartford, through Summer 2013 to explore ways to develop new strategies to respond to changing demographics and market dynamics.

The committee will meet on a regular basis throughout the duration of the program.  Support from the local planning staff and economic development professionals in the form of access to relevant plans, studies, GIS information and data and insights into the community and state-of-the-art downtown development will aid the group in forming accurate results and final recommendations for the public.
