Become a Regional Hospice Volunteer to Support Smilow Cancer Center
(Danbury, Conn.) Regional Hospice and Palliative Care provides hospice care to patients at Smilow Cancer Center at Yale. The independent, non-profit hospice agency seeks New Haven-Area volunteers to support their mission of providing the most compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their families at the renowned cancer center, in their homes and in New Haven-Area facilities.
Please join the Regional Hospice and Palliative Care team for their spring 2017 New Haven volunteer training. All interested volunteers must first apply online for the spring training.
To learn more about Regional Hospice and Palliative Care’s nationally-recognized hospice and bereavement programs and register for training please go to their website: www.regionalhospicect.org
Potential volunteers must fill out an application and take the two-day training to become part of the professional team supporting Smilow patients as well as Veterans who wish to volunteer as part of Regional Hospice’s We Honor Veterans program, which will match Veteran volunteers with Veterans at Smilow. Volunteers with certified pet-therapy dogs must also participate in the full two-day training taking place in New Haven this spring. Pet therapy volunteers serve New Haven-Area patients receiving hospice care in their homes.
Volunteer Licensed Massage Therapists are also needed to provide massage therapy to patients receiving hospice care in their homes. A two-hour hospice orientation will be provided for massage therapists, who should also apply online to participate.
Anyone interested should fill out an application and feel free to contact Mary Beth Hickey, Volunteer Director, with any questions. Please contact her at (203) 702-7415 or by email at MHickey@RegionalHospiceCT.org.
Website registration and an interview are required in advance of the class session, and attendance on both dates is mandatory. “We are looking for compassionate, caring people who are interested in helping families who have a loved one receiving end-of-life care,” said Hickey.
Regional Hospice and Palliative Care’s team of experienced clinicians have been providing physical, emotional, spiritual and bereavement support to children, adults and their families through our palliative and hospice care programs for the past 35 years. Regional Hospice and Palliative Care is a nonprofit, state-licensed and Medicare-certified home health care and hospice agency. Now, with the opening of our new private-room, specialty hospital for palliative and end-of-life care — the Center for Comfort Care & Healing — Regional Hospice and Palliative Care can bring that same hope and compassionate care close to home and under one roof.
