The City of Danbury, the Danbury Museum, Danbury's historic First Congregational Church, and the Mad Hatter Chorus invite you to a gathering of the Danbury community for a special July 4th commemoration.
At 2 p.m. the program will begin with a welcome from Brigid Guertin, Danbury Museum Executive Director and Danbury City Historian, followed by remarks by Heidi Palmer (Moderator of the First Church), a short speech from Mayor Roberto L. Alves; then the Declaration of Independence will be read aloud by community members. Following the reading of the Declaration, the Mad Hatter Chorus will lead us in a patriotic sing-along of "America the Beautiful," "God Bless America," and the "Star Spangled Banner."
At 2:50 p.m. Danbury will join with communities across the country in a national bell-ringing ceremony to commemorate the Semiquincentennial and ring the bells at the First Congregational Church as well as at St James's Episcopal Church.
