Legislator/Attorney

Family:

Does anyone in your family work in government?

No

Previous public office:

State Representative, 1989-present

Why are you seeking this office?

Throughout my time in the General Assembly, I have accomplished much. Gun Responsibility, transparent government, funding for my hometown of Danbury. I will continue to use all my knowledge, skills, and experience on behalf of my constituents

What do you believe is the No. 1 issue facing Connecticut, and how do you plan to address it?

Affordability. The attacks from Washington have made the cost-of-living skyrocket. I've joined in appropriating rainy-day funds to cover health care, health insurance, SNAP, and school funding. There will be many more challenges, and I intend to shield my constituents as much as is humanly possible.

Energy costs have been soaring in Connecticut. What are your plans to help address this issue?

When I see my Eversource bill every month, I am reminded that too much of it is going to the pockets of CEOs, not enough to workers, and I hear excuses, excuses, excuses. There are several small municipal providers that have not seen the spikes in costs. It's worth investigating. The reforms I voted for last year have begun to drop the cost to consumer. Follow up will be a big part of our efforts. We'll need to invest in sustainable sources like wind and solar, in spite of Washoington's attempts to stop them. Heating oil is projected to skyrocket as the consequences of the unconstitutional, illegal war in Iran permeate the economy, including the rise in inflation.

Affordability has been a major topic across the country and here in Connecticut. How do you plan to address this issue?

I agree it is a concern, especially considering the unconscionable attacks from Washington. I've supported our work in housing, energy, lowering taxes, increasing funding for schools, supporting municipalities to keep property taxes down, health care and health insurance. I'm looking forward to collaborating with my colleagues to continue to address affordability.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

Many success and awards, most especially in putting together bipartisan coalitions on gun responsibility; transparent government; voting rights to safety, security, and convenience, without interference; support for working families; funding for my hometown, especially in education; and leadership in the House of Representatives.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

There are two main areas of work. First, continuing to move Connecticut forward. Second shielding Connecticut's people from the chaos, cruelty, and corruption from Washington MAGA Republicans. It will be intensive, requiring time, effort, and collaboration. I am up to the task.
