Cartus Installs Car Charging Stations for Employees

DANBURY, CT – Cartus Corporation, a leading provider of global relocation services, and Danbury, Connecticut’s second largest employer, has reinforced its commitment to the environment with the installation of new car charging stations at its Danbury world headquarters. The decision also reinforces the Cartus commitment to its employees work/life balance, by providing them with a more cost effective commute and a feeling of contribution to better environmental practices.

As a member of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), Cartus is proud to announce it has become the seventh organization in Connecticut to register for the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Workplace Charging Challenge. By installing three plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) charging stations at its global headquarters in Danbury, Cartus has further emphasized its dedication to our transportation future. The installation of these stations fits into Cartus’ overall desire to provide its employees with yet another way to consider the environment—whether at work or at home.

“Statistics from the Department of Energy indicate that Providing workplace charging can potentially double a PEV driver’s all-electric daily commuting distance,” said Kevin Kelleher, Cartus President and CEO. “Many of our employees come from surrounding cities and towns—in fact, nearly 10 percent of our Danbury employees commute 25 miles or more—so we’re extremely pleased to be able to support a more cost-efficient commute for them, while boosting environmental health at the same time.”

By offering workplace charging, Kelleher also feels that companies signal corporate leadership and innovation, demonstrating a willingness to adopt advanced technology and provide a valuable benefit to employees. At the forefront of these efforts has been the Cartus Conservation Committee, in place for nearly 15 years. The committee is charged with looking for ways to decrease the company’s environmental impact, improve its carbon footprint and educating employees on conservation activities. Recent examples of this effort include:

• Receiving a Silver certification from leading supplier sustainability evaluator, EcoVadis, recognizing the company’s corporate efforts relating to the environment, labor and fair business practices, and sustainable procurement
• Observing its fourth International Transit Day in October; globally, employees shared a ride, walked, biked or took public transportation to work - reducing emissions by approximately 2.5 tons and saving 260 gallons of gasoline
• Receiving the GreenCircle Award from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for efforts to protect the environment and natural resources.
• Receiving the EcoLeadership Award from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence
• Using an independent air quality consultant to test all of its buildings annually and compare the results against Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines.

With only eight Workplace Charging Challenge registrants in the entire state1, Cartus is among a select group of schools and businesses to publicly demonstrate its commitment to this rapidly expanding energy infrastructure.
