Cavo Officially Takes Reins As Danbury Mayor; Boughton Steps Down
The swearing-in ceremony was moved up one day to accommodate the nor'easter.

DANBURY, CT — Calling it "one of the most tremendous honors of my lifetime," City Council President Joe Cavo was sworn in as the mayor of Danbury during a private, masked ceremony Wednesday at City Hall.
The formal transition was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was moved ahead to accommodate a nor'easter forecasted to drop up to 16 inches of snow on the city.
"I am looking forward to having conversations with you in the coming weeks, and representing each and every one of you in my new role," Cavo said in a statement. He had been president of the City Council since 2006, and representing the Third Ward since 2003.

Cavo is taking the job held by Mark Boughton for 10 terms since 2001. Boughton has accepted the position of the state's tax commissioner. In accordance with the city's charter, Cavo became mayor upon Boughton's resignation, has the job until at least the next municipal election. The Republicans on the Council must now nominate someone to replace Cavo, and the Council must approve the nomination and appoint someone to become its new president.
