DANBURY, CT — Gas prices in the Danbury area hit a new record on Wednesday — and have continued to climb.

As of Sunday, the average price for a gallon of gas in Connecticut is $4.47, up about a nickel since mid-week, and 86 cents from a month ago, according to the Automobile Association of America.

In Fairfield County, you can now consider yourself lucky if that's all you pay. The average price for a gallon of regular in these parts is about $4.53.

In Hat City proper, expect to pay a little bit less, even though the price for the least expensive gallon of gas in the city climbed 73 cents in the past week.

According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gas in the area is selling for $4.25 per gallon at CITGO, 63 Main Street.
