Danbury-New Fairfield Women's Club Raises Money for Local Charities
Women's Club sells poinsettias as major fund raiser.
This past Tuesday the Women’s Club of Danbury/New Fairfield boxed up 3,000 poinsettia plants at the Danbury Police Athletic League building. This was the major fundraiser for the club in which they sold $50,000 worth of plants in November to be delivered in December. The plants, which came in three colors and five sizes ranged in price from $10 to $30. All of the profits will be donated to local charities and given to five local high schools for scholarships.
The trucks arrived at the PAL building at 6AM and club members’ husbands unloaded the two huge tractor trailers. Club members unboxed the plants and put them in their proper categories while other members boxed them up for orders. It was masterpiece of organization. Most of the orders were filled and delivered by 1 PM. There was also a kitchen crew that fed the hungry volunteers starting with breakfast and lots of coffee with lunch being served later in the day consisting of sandwiches, pizza, desserts and beverages.
At the Club’s April Celebration of Giving Luncheon representatives of the various charities will be given their checks. The club would like to thank all of the generous clients who bought the plants to make this all possible.
