Coronavirus Danbury: Public Schools Closed Until Further Notice
Mayor Mark Boughton says he is making the decision to shut the schools "out of abundance of caution."
DANBURY, CT — Mayor Mark Boughton has made the decision to close Danbury public schools, starting Friday, and until further notice, in an effort to reduce the spread of the new coronavirus.
The mayor tweeted out his decision Thursday afternoon.
A growing number of Connecticut school districts, especially in southwestern part of the state, closed buildings to students amid concern about the new coronavirus this week. Nearly all colleges and universities in Connecticut moved to online classes and several other school districts announced one-day closures or shortened days.
