Coronavirus Vaccine For All Adults In CT Pushed Up To April 1

CONNECTICUT — The state has accelerated its coronavirus vaccine rollout and will now be making it available for all adults aged 16 and above to schedule appointments on April 1.

The move speeds up the availability to the final age tier, 16-44, by four days.

Gov. Ned Lamont made the announcement during a news conference Thursday afternoon. He said the accelerated rollout was a result of a new influx of vaccine. There will be 200,000 more appointments available next week as a result.

"It's going to be a rush to the gate," Lamont acknowledged.

As of Thursday, 31.1 percent of state residents have been given their first dose of the vaccine, placing Connecticut third in the nation in the category, according to Lamont.

The accelerated rollout comes as the state has hit a rocky patch of COVID-19 trends. Hospitalizations were up by 22 beds overnight. The daily coronavirus positivity rate is 3.88 percent. Ten more coronavirus-associated deaths were reported.
