CT Coronavirus Cases — And Unemployment Claims — Trend Downward

CONNECTICUT — The daily coronavirus rate in the state dropped overnight, just as quickly as it had shot up yesterday, to below where it sat on Monday.

The data compiled Tuesday and released Wednesday by the state Department of Public Health shows a decline from 4.96 percent to 2.43 percent, 24 hours earlier.

Health officials will be carefully watching the virus positivity numbers, along with the number of new hospitalizations for COVID-19, as the state lifts most capacity limits on businesses and restaurants Friday.

Coronavirus hospitalizations dropped by one bed. There are now 402 residents hospitalized with COVID-19.

Another sign that brighter days are ahead can be found with a glance at the latest claims for unemployment benefits, from the state Department of Labor. Its most current data set shows just 2,360 first claims made in mid-February, the lowest that number's been since a year ago.

An additional 373 COVID-19 cases were logged by the state Department of Public Health, bringing the total number to 294,328.

The coronavirus death toll in the state is now 7,807, following the eight new deaths recorded on Tuesday.
