CT Primary 2026: What Danbury Voters Need To Know

DANBURY, CT — Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Aug. 11, for Connecticut’s 2026 primary election, with races for governor and Congress among the contests on ballots across the state.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The biggest statewide contest is the Democratic primary for governor between incumbent Gov. Ned Lamont and state Rep. Josh Elliott of Hamden.

There is no Republican primary for governor. State Sen. Ryan Fazio is the Republican candidate for governor and will advance to the November general election.

Connecticut holds closed primaries, meaning voters generally must be registered with a political party to vote in that party’s primary.

• Ward 4: Shelter Rock School Gym
• Ward 5: Danbury War Memorial
• Ward 6: Park Avenue School Gym
• Ward 7: Westside Middle School Academy

Voters who aren't sure where they are assigned to vote can check their polling location through the Connecticut Secretary of the State's voter lookup.

Voters who are in line when polls close at 8 p.m. are allowed to cast a ballot.

What's On The Ballot In Danbury?

Danbury voters have two major primary contests, depending on their party affiliation.

Democratic voters will choose between incumbent Gov. Ned Lamont and state Rep. Josh Elliott of Hamden for the Democratic nomination for governor.

Republican voters will decide a congressional primary in Connecticut's 5th Congressional District, which includes Danbury.

Chris Shea and Jonathan De Barros are competing for the Republican nomination. The winner will advance to the November general election to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes.
