Friday, Aug. 29 Danbury Cultural Center Hosts Fundraiser for Sgt. TJ Lobraico Killed in Afghanistan

The Greater Danbury Irish Cultural Center is hosting a fundraiser for TJ Lobraico who was killed in action one year ago this September.

September 5, 2014 marks the one year anniversary of the day Staff Sgt. TJ Lobraico, Jr. was killed in action while serving active duty in Afghanistan with the United States Air Force. He died from wounds sustained from enemy forces who attacked his unit near Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, according to his obituary.

Lobraico, 22 of Sherman, was born in New Milford and was a 2008 graduate of New Fairfield High School. He studied Justice and Law Administration at Western Connecticut State University and wished to continue public service as a police officer.

Lobraico comes from an Air National Guard Family. His father, Master Sgt. Todd Lobriaco, is a member of the 105th Security Forces Squadron. His mother, Maj. Linda Rohatsch, commands the 105th Medical Group. At the time of his death, TJ was on his second deployment since enlisting in the 105th Airlift Wing as a security forces apprentice.

TJ’s family has set up a scholarship fund to help his legacy of service and generosity live on. The college scholarship fund was established in his memory and will be awarded annually to a deserving student who emulates the characteristics that TJ embodied.

On Friday, August 29 at 7:00 p.m. the Greater Danbury Irish Cultural Center is hosting a tip night to benefit the Sgt. TJ Lobraico, Jr. Scholarship Fund. All tips given on that night will be donated to the fund.
