The Tails of Courage animal shelter has agreed to shut down in the face of a lawsuit filed last year by the city
DANBURY, CT — An animal shelter accused of maintaining deplorable conditions has agreed to shut down in the face of a lawsuit filed by the city last year.
The nonprofit Tails of Courage which has operated out of 39 Smith Street, has "agreed to the immediate revocation of all planning and zoning approvals, for the use of the property as a dog kennel/animal rescue site or shelter, and has also agreed not to resume such operations at the property," according to a news release from the Mayor's Office.
In return, the city will drop its lawsuit that charged the shelter violated a cease-and-desist order, stayed open after it was ordered closed following health violation notices, and accused one shelter employee of animal cruelty.
