Danbury Battalion Honored Before Deployment to Africa

DANBURY, CT — The fire department was on hand for a ceremony on Sunday honoring the 411th Civil Affairs Battalion, HQ Detachment, which is shipping out for a one year mission to Africa.

The 411th is stationed at the US Army Reserve Center on Wooster Heights Road in Danbury, under the command of Lt Colonel Cecil Piazza.

General Robert Cooley (US Army) who commands the 353rd Civil Affairs Command out of Staten Island gave the keynote speech to the crowd assembled, pointing out the importance of serving your country and as a first responder.

The battalion provides civil-military operations support to maneuver units to minimize civilian interference in military operations, coordinates reconstruction operations, provides cultural expertise and humanitarian aide, and executes functional specialties including public works, public administration, public education, public safety, public health, noncombatant operations, dislocated civilian operations, and civil information management, according to its Facebook page.
