Danbury Brothers Prepare for Amateur Boxing Title Bouts: Report

The sons of Danbury heavyweight Fernely Feliz look to forge their own legacy in separate amateur title bouts this weekend.

DANBURY, MA — With hopes of writing the next chapter in their own boxing story, the sons of former Danbury-based heavyweight boxing contender Fernely Feliz will compete in amateur title bouts this weekend, reports the News Times. Fernely Jr., 20, and Ali, 13, will fly the flag of Danbury's Champs Boxing Club as they step into rings on opposite sides of the country.

Fernely Jr. is set to compete against Matt Whitcomb of the United States Military Academy in a super-heavyweight scrap at the Western New England Golden Gloves Saturday in Springfield, Mass. His younger brother Ali will travel to Independence, MO, to challenge for the 12-13 165-pound division's National Silver Gloves championship, which will take place from Thursday to Friday.

The boys' father, Fernely Sr., boasted a 23-9 record as a professional heavyweight boxer, debuting in 1993. He had taken his talents across the united states and even to Europe, boasting a 50 percent knockout rate. Fernely Sr. had even trained with the likes of former world champion and Mike Tyson nemesis Evander Holyfield, according to a prior report from the News Times.
