Danbury To Dedicate Hometown Heroes Banners On Armed Forces Day

The dedication ceremony for the Danbury Hometown Heroes Banner Program will take place on Armed Forces Day, May 21, 2022 at 10:00am at Danbury City Hall. The sixty-two banners honoring local service members, both past and present, will be installed on city owned lampposts in time for Memorial Day and will be displayed through Veterans Day.

“We couldn’t ask for a better day to hold the dedication ceremony than on Armed Forces Day in recognition of our military service members,” said Program Coordinator Lee Teicholz. The banners were sold from August through March and display the honorees photo, name, rank, branch of service, era of service, and service dates. Sponsors could also add their name at the bottom of the banner.

The City of Danbury has always been a community, which strongly supports and advocates for military personnel and veterans and the Hometown Heroes Banner Program is just one of many ways that the city shows our brave men and women who have served and those serving our nation today that they will never be forgotten.

The event is open to the public. State of Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Thomas Saadi will be the Master of Ceremonies. Speakers will include Commissioner Thomas Saadi, Mayor Dean Esposito, Danbury Veterans Affairs Director Dan Hayes, and Program Coordinator Lee Teicholz.

Maggie Cortese will sing the National Anthem, taps will be played by Albert Russo, the 3-volley salute will be done by the Danbury Police Honor Guard, and Deacon William Murphy of St. Gregory The Great Parish will be doing the invocation and benediction.
