Danbury Fire Companies Consider Consolidation
Four volunteer stations have already made the decision to join forces
DANBURY, CT — Consolidation may be in the cards for some of the city's volunteer fire departments, the News Times is reporting.
Water Witch Hose Company No. 7, the Padanaram Hose No. 3, Germantown Volunteer Fire Co. No. 10 and Beaver Brook Volunteer Fire Co. No. 11 have already made the decision to consolidate their services last month.
The move is made necessary by reductions in the ranks of volunteers and a difficulty recruiting new ones. Danbury has 100 to 110 volunteer firefighters, spread across 12 companies. There are another five career stations staffed with professionals. Seven of the 12 volunteer stations are owned by the city, while the remainders are owned by the fire companies themselves.
