Danbury Fire: Hero Neighbor Rescues Six from Burning Home

A quick-acting neighbor helped save a family from a 2-alarm fire on Pond Ridge Road in Danbury.

DANBURY — Firefighters from the Danbury Fire Department responding to multiple calls at 11:30 on Sunday morning found a fire blazing on the outside of an attached garage at 2 Pond Ridge Road. The first responders requested a second alarm be transmitted when they saw the magnitude of the fire.

Just before the first firefighters arrived, Anthony Petrella, a neighbor living across the street from the burning building, ran across the street and helped two adults, four children and their dog escape to safety. Fire department officials are calling Petrella a hero.

The fire was extinguished promptly after the arrival of DFD units. The residents were evaluated by Danbury Hospital EMS personnel and were cleared with no injuries. They were able to re-occupy their home.
