DANBURY, CT — An off-duty Danbury Fire Department official came to the rescue — thousands of feet in the air.

Deputy Chief Bill Lounsbury was on a flight from a work-related conference in Las Vegas when he was made aware of the need for medical personnel to assist a passenger who was having an anaphylactic reaction. Lounsbury, who has advanced emergency medical technician training, answered the call.

The flight crew teamed him with a Connecticut pediatrician who was unaccustomed to treating adults. Lounsbury assisted in administering the correct dosage, according to a post on the FD's Facebook page. Both men continued to treat the distressed passenger until the plane landed.
