Danbury First Responders Mourn Death Of 20-Year Police Veteran
Danbury Police Sergeant David Cooney died Sunday night at the age of 45 after a battle with cancer.
DANBURY, CT — City first responders are mourning the loss of one of their own.
Danbury Police Sergeant David Cooney died Sunday night at the age of 45 after a battle with cancer.
Cooney, a past president of the police union, was a 20-year DPD veteran

Most recently, Cooney was supervisor of the Crime Scene Unit. He had also served as administrator for the department’s records management system, and liaison to several external agencies.
"Dave will always be remembered for his dedicated service to the department and the city, and for his great sense of humor. He will be sorely missed," the police department said in a statement released Monday afternoon.

A social media post from the Danbury Fire Department offered condolences to the police force on Comey's death:
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Sgt. Cooney's family and all the members of the Danbury Police Department. May he Rest In Peace," the Facebook posting reads.
Cooney's father, Capt. Dennis Cooney, served on the DPD for 21 years before succumbing to a fatal heart attack while on duty in 1994.
