Danbury, Immaculate Runners Qualify for New England Championships

The Danbury boys' team and a pair of Immaculate girls will compete in Vermont on Nov. 14.

The city of Danbury will be well-represented at the New England Cross Country Championships next weekend, as the Danbury High School team and a pair of girls from Immaculate will compete based on their outstanding showing in Friday’s State Open at Wickham Park in Manchester.

Danbury was runnerup to Staples in the boys team standings, trailing by just 13 points. Junior Trevor Reed and senior Jack Adamski earned individual medals by finishing 15th and 21st, respectively, while sophomore Dan Nichols (40th), junior Terrell Cunningham (42nd) and senior Jake Roberts (48th) also placed in the top 50 of the 188-runner field.

In the girls’ race, senior Jenna Gasparrini of Immaculate finished seventh, while teammate Angela Saidman, a freshman, wound up ninth.

The top six teams and first 25 individuals at the State Open qualify for the New Englands, to be run Saturday, Nov. 14 at Thetford Academy, just outside of White River Junction, VT.
