Police: Danbury Man Struck Police Car Before Driving Into Snow Bank

Officers observed the vehicle approaching and driving erratically.

A Danbury man who struck an officer’s patrol car before driving into a snow bank was charged for driving under the influence early Monday morning.

According to police, officers were out at around 1:10 a.m. on Monday helping a disabled vehicle at Balmforth and Rowan when officers approached another vehicle approaching and driving erratically.

An officer attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on Maple Avenue.

When the vehicle stopped, the operator, Sinvaldo Gomes Deoliviera, 52 put the vehicle into reverse and struck the officer’s patrol car and then attempted to flee the scene. The suspect made a turn onto Patch Street, striking a snow bank.

Officers then took the suspect into custody.

Deoliviera was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs, unsafe backing, traveling the wrong way on a one-way street, disobeying the signal of an officer and evading responsibility.

Deoliviera was released after posting a $5,000 bond and given a court date of March 6.
