Danbury Mayor Proposes Lowering Taxes

DANBURY, CT — Mayor Mark Boughton is floating a proposal to lower Danbury property taxes, despite an anticipated increase in city spending. The mayor's proposal includes a $4 million increase to the Danbury Public Schools budget -- less than the $7 million increase that education officials have said is necessary to deal with a growing enrollment,
Boughton presented his $257 million budget plan to the City Council on Tuesday night. That's $6.5 million more than the city budgeted for the current fiscal year. than The council will debate its fine points and put it to a vote over the next month.
