Danbury Police Accepting Applications For Citizen Police Academy
The free eight-week program teaches participants about police procedures and operations.
DANBURY, CT — The Danbury Police Department is accepting applications for its spring Citizen Police Academy, a free program designed to give residents an inside look at police work.
The eight-week program runs Tuesday evenings from March 24 through May 12, with weekly sessions held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Participants will learn about a range of law enforcement topics, including patrol procedures, crime scene investigations and specialized units such as SWAT and K-9.

The program is open to Danbury residents, business owners and people who work in the city, according to the department.
Officials said the program aims to help participants better understand police procedures and strengthen relationships between the department and the community.

"When residents get a better understanding of how our police department operates, they become partners in keeping our neighborhoods safe and supporting one another," said Lieutenant James Antonelli with the Danbury Police.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and able to attend weekly sessions during the program.
Space in the academy is limited to 30 participants, and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications must be submitted by March 20.
