Danbury Police are tying up a 1989 cold case involving kidnapping and sexual assault
David Coffey faces new charges in connection to a 1989 kidnapping and sexual assault in Danbury, police announced Wednesday.
DANBURY, CT — A Danbury man is facing additional charges in connection with a 1989 cold case involving the kidnapping and sexual assault of a second victim, police announced Wednesday.
David Coffey, 53, was served a warrant by the Danbury Police Department’s Special Victims Unit on April 9, following a renewed investigation into the decades-old case. He had previously been charged in a separate incident from April 1989.
During the earlier investigation, a second victim was identified, prompting a further review of evidence. A warrant application was submitted to and approved by a Danbury Superior Court Judge, according to police.

Coffey has now been charged with first-degree kidnapping in connection to the events of Jan. 9, 1989, which occurred during the early morning hours. He is currently being held on a $750,000 bond.
The Danbury Police Department encourages anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
