Danbury Police Officer Arrested, Charged with Using Unnecessary Force

The arrest comes after a months-long investigation by the Connecticut State Police.

DANBURY, CT - Police said a Danbury officer was arrested for use of unnecessary force during an incident this past summer.

Officer David Williams turned himself in after learning there was a warrant for his arrest for breach of peace charges, according to a release.

The charges stem from a video discovered by the Danbury States Attorney’s Office that allegedly shows the officer using unnecessary force against a handcuffed suspect. The incident too place on July 29, after the suspect had been arrested for assaulting another Danbury police officer.

Williams is a 15-year veteran of the Danbury Police Department. The arrest comes after a months-long investigation by the Connecticut State Police, and the Danbury Police Internal Affairs Division conducted a separate investigation into this matter.

Investigators said Williams was found to be in violation of several department policies, for which a formal disciplinary hearing will soon take place. Police said there may be other departmental charges now that he has also been arrested.
