Danbury Residents To Vote In GOP And Democratic Primaries Tuesday

DANBURY, CT — Danbury residents will go to the polls on Tuesday to cast votes in the Republican and Democratic primaries.

Democrats will vote to nominate a candidate for the offices of Secretary of the State and Treasurer. Republicans will be nominating a candidate for U.S. Senator and Secretary of the State.

Connecticut has a closed primary system. Only enrolled Democrats may vote in the Democratic Primary, and only enrolled Republicans may vote in the Republican Primary. The deadline for changing from one party to another to vote in the primary has already passed.

Republican voters will pick among longtime state representative Themis Klarides, Leora R. Levy and Peter Lumaj for U.S. Senator. The winner will challenge incumbent Democrat Sen. Richard Blumenthal in November.

For Secretary of State in the Democratic Primary, voters may choose either Maritza Bond or State Rep. Stephanie Thomas. Republicans will cast their votes for either Dominic Rapini or State Rep. Terrie E. Wood.

The race for the Democratic nomination for Treasurer is a three-way one: Erick Russell, Dita Bhargava and Karen DuBois-Walton.
